Caoling Historic Trail One-day Tour
Suggested Itinerary
Day1 Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area -> Caoling Historic Trail -> Dali Tiangong Temple -> Beiguan Tidal Park
The Caoling Historic Trail is 8.5-km long and takes about three to four hours to walk. Starting from Fude Temple at Yuanwangkeng, the trail spans the border of Taipei and Yilan counties, passing by several historic points on the way. Two well-known attractions here are Qing period stone inscriptions reading "Bravely Suppress the Wild Mists" and the other with the single character for "Tiger." The trail scenery changes dramatically as one proceeds, passing through narrow tree-lined sections, opening up to expansive views of the sea, and winding through lush green orchards and terraced fields. The trail is especially beautiful in fall, when endless fields of tasseled silver grass sway gently in the wind.
Another attraction along the trail is Tiangong Temple on Caoling Mountain in Dali. Looking out to the Pacific Ocean, the temple has elaborately carved pillars and painted beams. At the Dali Visitor Center you can also enjoy displays introducing the culture and history of the Northeast Coast. Dali Visitor Center +886-3-978-0727~8
The trail also leads to Beiguan Tidal Park, one of the eight scenic wonders of Lanyang. The coastal geology here is formed by "tofu rocks" and cuestas that fall dramatically on one side, pounded by the swelling ocean waves.
Eating Spots: There are no shops along the trail, so visitors should pack their own food. There are also several restaurants selling fresh seafood in nearby Fulong, Gongliao and Dali.
Notes:
- Beware of snakes and bees in the mountainous areas of the trail.
- To preserve the natural environment, please do not pick plants, light fires, have barbecues, or litter.
- The Tiger Inscription stele is located on a ridge exposed to strong gales from the coast. Visitors should take caution.
- Winter visitors should dress warmly as the trail can become windy and cold.
- There are no food shops along the Caoling Historic Trail. Visitors should therefore bring their own food.
